Back to Country

Back to Country was an emotional event held in partnership with Elders from across Far East Gippsland impacted by the devastation of fire in 2019-2020. Fire crews and First People living on Country met together, on Country, to reflect on their lived experiences.

Fire can be devastating, yet as it has done for centuries, fire also brings people and community together. Back to Country is a first step in the passage of Healing.

With special thanks to Gunaikurnai, Monero and Yuin First Nations People, whose stories are recorded in this film.

The steps on which we walk, connect and learn in this video are the sacred grounds of the Gunaikurnai People – we pay our respects to all First Nation people, their Elders past, present and emerging.
